Is it safe to leave until morning?
Not every broken window is an emergency. This is roughly how we judge it on the phone.
- Cracked but whole, nothing loose
- A ground-floor pane out of the wind will usually hold overnight. Book it for the morning and save the night rate on your own time.
- Pieces already on the floor, or you can hear it moving
- That is a boarding job now and a glazing job tomorrow. It will not survive a gust.
- Tape across the crack
- Tape does not hold glass. It stops the pieces scattering when the pane finally goes, which is not the same thing as holding it.
- Crazed all over into small squares
- That is toughened glass, and it has already failed. It does not crack, it goes all at once. There is nothing left holding it in.

What changes the price of a broken window repair
Most broken windows come in near the starting figure. These are the things that move it.
- Pane size. Glass is priced by area, so a small top opener and a large picture window are not close.
- Single pane or sealed unit. A sealed double glazed unit is two panes and a spacer, made to measure.
- Where the glass sits. Low level, beside a door or on a stair means safety glass by regulation, toughened or laminated rather than float.
- What else broke. A hinge, handle or lock damaged in the same incident is parts and labour on top of the glass.

Can you repair the window or must it be replaced?
Most window problems - hinges, handles, locks, misted units or cracked panes - are a repair, not a replacement. We only recommend a new window when it is genuinely beyond economic repair.
My window will not close or lock - what is wrong?
Usually a worn hinge, dropped sash or failed locking mechanism. These are common, quick fixes we carry parts for.
How fast can you attend a smashed window?
We aim for 30-60 minutes across central Manchester and Trafford, and same-day across Greater Manchester, then make safe immediately.
Do you repair aluminium as well as UPVC?
Yes. We repair and reglaze UPVC, aluminium and timber windows, and because we fabricate we can match awkward sizes.
Will you make the property safe if you cannot finish today?
Yes. We board up or make safe on the first visit and return with the correct glass, usually within 24-48 hours.
How long does a window repair take, and how much to repair a broken window UK wide?
A single glazed pane is the cheapest job on the list. A sealed double glazed unit costs more, and toughened, laminated or shaped glass more again because it is made to order. Hardware repairs like a handle or hinge are usually less than the glass. We price from a photo before travelling.
Can you repair a cracked window or replace it?
The glass itself cannot be repaired. A crack in a pane means that pane is replaced, though the frame almost always stays. What can be repaired is everything around the glass: hinges, handles, locks, seals and alignment.
Is a cracked window an emergency?
Not usually, unless it is a door pane, at low level, or the crack runs right across. Toughened glass is the exception: once it is cracked it can let go without warning, so that one is worth doing quickly.
Does insurance cover a broken window?
Most buildings policies cover accidental and malicious breakage, but the excess is often close to the cost of one pane, so many people pay directly. We document every job either way so you can decide after seeing the price.
Can you replace just one pane of double glazing?
Yes, and that is normally what we do. The sealed unit is replaced on its own and the frame, hinges and handles stay. Replacing a whole window because one unit has failed is rarely necessary.
