Insurance-backed guarantee

Your guarantee is underwritten by an independent provider, so your cover remains valid even in the unlikely event the company ceases trading. You’ll receive your certificate and documentation at handover.

Why “insurance-backed” is the word that matters

Almost every window company offers a ten-year guarantee. Very few of them will still be trading in ten years, and a guarantee from a company that has closed is worth exactly nothing. That is what the phrase is there to solve: the cover sits with an independent insurer, not with us, so it survives us.

It is worth asking this of anyone who quotes you, and asking it plainly: is the guarantee insurance-backed, who underwrites it, and will I get the certificate at handover or afterwards? A company that hesitates on any of the three has told you something useful. Ours is issued at handover with the paperwork, and it is the single document worth keeping when the job is finished.

Your FENSA certificate, and why it matters when you sell

Replacing a window or a door is notifiable work under the Building Regulations. It has to be signed off, and there are only two routes: a building control application to the council, or an installer registered with a competent person scheme who can self-certify. We are FENSA registered, so we take the second route and you get a certificate without paying the council fee.

Keep it. When you come to sell, your buyer’s solicitor will ask for the certificate for any glazing fitted since April 2002. If it cannot be produced the usual outcome is a retention or an indemnity policy at your expense, over paperwork that was free at the time. Lost yours from a previous installer? FENSA will reissue against the address, and it is worth doing before the house goes on the market rather than during a chain.

What’s not covered

Accidental damage, misuse, alterations by third parties, and normal wear to consumable parts such as brush seals fall outside the guarantee. Routine maintenance (such as lubricating moving parts) is the homeowner’s responsibility and helps keep your guarantee valid.

Simply call us on 07533 830717 or email admin@primefab.co.uk with your installation details. We aim to respond within two working days and resolve genuine guarantee issues promptly and free of charge.

Because the frames and sealed units are made in our own Trafford Park workshop, a guarantee claim does not depend on a supplier still stocking a part. We can remake a unit or a sash to the original sizes years later, which is the practical difference between a guarantee that gets honoured and one that gets explained away.
