Aluminium Windows by PrimeFab

Aluminium Windows

Slimline aluminium windows in casement and tilt and turn, thermally broken so the frame does not carry the cold through to the inside face.

Bi-Fold Doors by PrimeFab

Bi-Fold Doors

Aluminium bifold doors that fold a wall of glass back to the garden. 3 panel bifold doors and 4 panel bifold doors are the common configurations.

Sliding Doors by PrimeFab

Sliding Doors

Aluminium sliding doors and aluminium patio doors in large panes. Slim sliding doors where you want the glass to read as one sheet.

Curtain Walling by PrimeFab

Curtain Walling

Structural glazing and curtain walling for commercial facades, to spec and programme.

Shopfronts by PrimeFab

Shopfronts

Aluminium shopfronts and entrances built for durability and kerb appeal.

Roof Lanterns & Structural by PrimeFab

Roof Lanterns & Structural

An aluminium roof lantern over a flat roof extension, plus structural glazing and corner details that bring light in from above.

Doors

The aluminium doors we make

Aluminium doors carry more glass on less frame than any other material, which is why almost every large opening ends up in it.

Bifolds

Aluminium bifold doors prices depend mostly on the number of panels and the running gear. We quote the leaf configuration alongside the price so you can compare properly.

Sliding and patio

Aluminium sliding patio doors where you want the opening clear rather than stacked, with the panes carried on rollers instead of hinges.

French doors

Aluminium french doors for narrower openings, where a bifold would be more track than glass.

Front doors

An aluminium front door in the same finish as the windows, for a frontage that reads as one system rather than three suppliers.

Styles

Slimline, heritage and Crittall style

Slim frame

Slim frame aluminium windows and aluminium casement windows in thermally broken aluminium, where the sightline is the point of choosing the material.

Crittall style

Crittall style windows and crittall style doors, with the slim black grid that suits warehouse conversions and modern rear extensions.

Heritage

Heritage aluminium windows for period frontages, where the profile has to look right from the street and still meet current thermal rules.

Tilt and turn

Aluminium tilt and turn windows for upper floors and apartments, opening inwards so the outer face can be cleaned from inside.

Colour

Powder coating and finishes

Aluminium takes colour better than any other frame material, because it is sprayed and baked rather than wrapped in a foil.

Anthracite grey

Anthracite grey aluminium windows, RAL 7016, are the default for new build and extensions and by far our most ordered finish.

Black

Black aluminium windows in matt or satin, the finish that goes with a Crittall style grid.

Any RAL

RAL colour aluminium windows to whatever reference you specify. Powder coated aluminium windows hold that colour without repainting.

Two colours at once

Dual colour aluminium windows, dark outside and light or white inside, so the elevation and the room each get the colour that suits them.

Good to know

Aluminium window questions

How much do aluminium windows cost in the UK?

Aluminium costs more than uPVC for the same opening, and the gap widens on small windows where you are paying for a stronger frame you do not structurally need. It narrows on large openings, where uPVC needs bulky reinforcement to do the same job. We quote per opening after a survey.

Are aluminium windows worth it?

On big openings, corner glazing and anything where the sightline matters, yes. On a standard small casement the extra cost buys strength you will not notice. Our honest answer is often to mix the two: aluminium on the rear extension, uPVC on the bedrooms.

Aluminium vs uPVC windows, which should I choose?

Aluminium is stronger, slimmer, takes any RAL colour and lasts longer before it looks tired. uPVC is cheaper and insulates marginally better pound for pound. Frame strength decides it: if the pane is large, aluminium. If the budget is tight and the openings are ordinary, uPVC.

Do aluminium windows cause condensation?

Old ones did, because bare aluminium conducts cold straight to the inside face. Modern frames are thermally broken, with an insulating barrier through the middle of the profile, and behave much like any other modern window. Any 1970s frame still fitted will run with water in winter.

How long do aluminium windows last?

Longer than the other frame materials. Powder coating does not need repainting, and the frame will not warp or discolour the way plastic eventually can. The moving parts and the sealed units remain the items that need attention over time.

Are aluminium bifold doors secure?

Yes, and the frame material helps. Bifolds carry multipoint locking on the lead door and shootbolts on each intermediate leaf, so every panel locks into the track. Specify laminated glass on ground floor openings and it is a harder target than most back doors.

Judging a quote

What separates good aluminium from cheap aluminium

Aluminium varies more than uPVC, and the differences are not visible on a brochure photograph.

The thermal break
A barrier between the inside and outside faces of the frame. Without an adequate one, aluminium conducts cold straight through and the frame runs with condensation.
Sightlines
The visible frame width. Slim sightlines are the reason to choose aluminium in the first place, so it is worth asking for the figure in millimetres.
The finish
Powder coating to any RAL. Dual colour, one shade inside and another outside, is a second pass through the line rather than a free option.
The threshold
Flush for level access, or upstand for weather performance. You can have one or the other and the honest answer is which matters more here.
Where it is made
Imported systems mean weeks of lead time when a site dimension moves and a unit has to be remade.

Ours are cut, fabricated and powder coated to order from Trafford Park, which is why a late variation is a few days here rather than a few weeks.

Straight answer on cost

What changes the price of aluminium windows and doors

Windows start at £399 and doors at £499. The variables are wider than uPVC because the systems are.

  • System and size. Slimline casements, tilt and turns, sliders and bifolds are different extrusions with different price per metre.
  • Number of leaves. A bifold is priced by the opening and the number of panels folding into it.
  • RAL colour. Any RAL is available, and dual colour (one inside, another outside) is a second pass through the powder coating line.
  • Threshold and glass. A flush threshold, and the glass specification a large pane needs, both move the figure.
